Yajaira's story. Yajaira is a mother and small businesswoman woman who produces chemicals in her home. She is 28 years old and lives in a small village called San Benito. When DJ came to her in heer village, she had very few resources to expand her business. Her loan has allowed her to expand her chemical business as well as venture into new businesses. Yajairas day begins at 4:00 am. She loads her tricycle and heads off to distribute her goods to a variety of grocery stores.
She expresses her gratitude to God and to the project for the confidence they have placed in her.
"For me as the team leader" says, Eliett Blandon, "it is a real pleasure to work with women like Yajaira. They have great passion and enthusiasm to see their businesses grow and expand."
Here are a few pictures of her home and where she makes her products such as vanilla extract, cherry extract, and a variety of other extracts that can be put into water, milk, or sodas. The process of making these extracts were passed down to her by her father. I was perplexed by the fact that such a great business was having such a tough time moving forward until later in my conversation with Yajaira, I learned that on a previous loan she was paying 10 percent a month interest, that is 120 % per annum.
